About installing RAM SIMMs
The standard configuration for a Phaser 480 includes 32 Mbytes of RAM
(80 nsec). Optionally, RAM can be increased to either 48 Mbytes or 64 Mbytes by
installing one or both RAM SIMMs in the two RAM expansion SIMM
connectors.
Note
These must be Tektronix propriety RAM SIMMs.
Refer to the Section 8 topic “RAM SIMM” on page 8-18 for the procedure to
install SIMMs.

About installing an Ethernet card
The Ethernet network option will provide a 2- to 4-times increase in data
transfer rates compared to LocalTalk data rates. The data transfer rate will vary
depending on the network traffic. The Ethernet option supports the EtherTalk,
Novell and TCP/IP network protocols.
To determine if the option has been installed, look for the “Installed” label above
the Ethernet port. If the label is there, the option has been installed. Also, the
network option, if installed, is listed on the printer's start page. Refer to the
Chapter 8 topic “Ethernet card” on page 8-20 for the procedure to install the
Ethernet card.
While the EtherTalk and Novell protocols are available with the installation of
the Ethernet card, TCP/IP is not. An authorization code must be downloaded to
the printer to activate the TCP/IP protocol. This is explained in the Chapter 8
topic “Enabling TCP/IP with the downloadable authorization code” on
page 8-21.
An ethernet adapter (transceiver) is required. It can be purchased through
Tektronix or from a computer dealer. There are three external Ethernet adapters
available:
