This indicates that FM demodulation is now being used and that the vertical
scale factor has changed to 10 kHz/division. The vertical axis now measures
frequency deviation. The sweep being displayed should resemble the upper
trace in Figure 6–14

.

It is an approximate indication of the instantaneous

frequency deviation.

The vertical scale can be changed in a 10-5-1 kHz/div sequence.

7. Repeatedly press [10/5/1] to cycle through the frequency deviation scales; set

the vertical scale to 10 kHz/div.

8. Press [DSPL] [9] [W] to select MIN HOLD IN WFM A.

Let the data accumulate for two to three minutes. A ragged horizontal
waveform develops indicating the maximum frequency excursions during the
observation period.

The following steps show how to read out the frequency deviation with the
marker:

9. Press [MKR/

/OFF] to turn the marker on.
