Caution:
In plants with toxic and explosive gases, high pressure or high temperatures, the MPU
shall only be mounted and dismounted, if the pipelines are vented or if the plant is not
working.
The same applies to repair and service work which involves opening measuring channel
or the explosion-proof signal processing unit.
1.2.3.
Temperature Drop and Depressurization
Please be aware that rapid temperature changes may damage the ultrasonic trans-
ducers and should be avoided. If the meters are subjected to a temperature change of
more than 5 degrees Celsius or 9 degrees Fahrenheit per 5 minutes transducers may
be damaged and may have to be replaced. This can also occur under rapid pressure
changes like emergency depressurization; therefore, the maximum rate of depressur-
ization is 10 bars per 5 minutes.
1.2.4.
Lifting Heavy Loads
If using a crane when lifting the MPU, the certified lifting slings must be wrapped around
the meter, or use lifting lugs if available. Lifting and handling must always be performed
At offshore installations, it is very important to secure the meter during crane handling
due to motion on the platform or vessel resulting in pendulum motion of the load.
Do not fasten any lifting slings in the electronic connection box or its bracket.
1.2.5. Disposal
It is the operator’s responsibility to obtain the necessary information about all relevant
regulations and requirements from your local authorities. Ensure that the relevant ma-
terials are disposed of in an environmentally safe fashion.
The operator is responsible for ensuring compliance with all general and local regula-
tions which are in force at the time of disposal.
1.2.5.1. Disposal of a Functional Component or System
• When a functional component or system is taken out of service, we recommend that
it should be sorted into its different types of waste and then disposed of or recycled
as appropriate. Sort and separate iron, nonferrous metals, plastics, electronic waste,
etc.
• Fuels, grease, oil and objects or lines contaminated with them must be disposed
of separately.
1.2.6.
Proper Intended Use
If the system is used exclusively for quality control in collaboration with measuring sys-
tems on tank trucks, the corresponding applicable safety regulations (e.g.
protection)
must be complied with.
Any form of use which exceeds the scope described above is deemed to be improper
use; Smith Meter is not liable for damages resulting from such improper use.
