Group Channel is a combination of PMR channel and
subtone (CTCSS code) and is not the same as PMR
channel.
The group channel which you are currently listening to
is shown in the box at the top. twOutdoor scans
through all of the group channels until it finds one with
minimum radio interference from other transmitters.
Choose Channel OK or wait for the count down of 20
seconds if you are satisfied with the new channel selec-
tion. twOutdoor then proceeds to the Go Live screen.
Alternatively, press Find Another Channel to test the
next available group channel. twOutdoor only scans
unusual combinations of PMR channel and subtone in
the hope that they are not being used, and does not
test all 304 combinations. Choose Channel OK or wait
for the count down of 20 seconds when you find a
good channel.
When you start the channel changing, all other group
members get a notification in the status bar “Channel
is being changed” and a long beep is output on their
devices. If anyone is talking right now, they and every-
one else know that they will have to repeat what they
said when a new channel has been found.
When channel changing is completed, all other group
members get another notification in the status bar
“On new channel” and a short beep (roger beep) is
output on their devices. Anyone can speak now, but
they should first give the former speaker a chance to
repeat what he or she was saying before changing
channels.
If any of the group members now find interference
problems on the new channel, they can start the chan-
nel changing process again.
In group mode, twOutdoor automatically ensures that
everyone is using the same walkie talkie channel by
sending control and notification messages through the
takwak server. In navigate-alone mode, everyone must
configure the right channel themselves (see
“Walkie
Talkie app”
on page 75).
PMR volume: See
“Setting the PMR volume”
on
page 77.
Settings in Group Mode
The following settings can be made during group
mode:
Select Refresh Rate
: Choose how often this device
contacts the takwak server to get status updates and
send its own status updates (Slow, Normal or Fast). In-
creasing the refresh rate ensures that the information
is more up-to-date but increases the drain on the bat-
tery and the amount of mobile data which is trans-
ferred.
Note: If other devices in the group have a slow refresh
rate, the server may not currently have the latest status
