Drive makes a flip sound. All
lights on right front of drive.
Software says a tape is loaded
and drive is in use. But no tape
is in the drive.

•

Popped leader

Operating system reports tape
in the drive. It may or may not
give a bar code. Customers
verify that the drive is empty.

This is a buffer hang condition. The hardware and
software are out of sync.

•

Re-IPL the drive. Try again.

•

Re-IPL the library. Unload all drives from the operating
systems first. Try again.

•

Restart application. Try again.

•

Re-IPL the host

Customer reports drive keeps
going down.

Watch the amount of time it takes the software to down
the drive.

If it is a short time it is an operating system
problem.

If it is a very long time it can be a drive mapping
problem

•

Bad drive

•

Control path has a problem

Customer reports that he sees 7
or 15 drives on a bus. But there
is only one drive.

•

Wrong address. You have set the drive address to the
same as the host bus adapter (HBA).
This is usually ID 7.
