for a list of potential problems and possible causes.
The following procedure describes the isolation of a faulty tape drive and its
replacement while the library and other drives are online. This procedure is
called a
hot swap
of the tape drive.
Note:
Before starting, read through the procedure to become familiar with the
tasks both you and the operator must perform.
You can use the
Drive Status
menu from the operator panel to check the drive’s
status. Typically, drive failures are reported in this menu as:
•
Not connected
•
Unknown drive
•
Not communicating
•
Not functional
•
Not loadable
Problem
Conditions That Could Cause This Problem
The client system:
•
Cannot access a drive
•
Marks the drive unavailable
•
Detects an unrecoverable error in the
drive
•
The drive has lost power
•
A poor or missing SCSI/fiber bus connection
•
A defective SCSI/fiber cable
•
A damaged tape
•
A faulty drive
1. Have the operator place the drive
offline.
2. Open the front door.
3. At the operator panel, check the
drive’s status. See
for a list of messages.
