Use this TIP if the operating system does not recognize the library.
WARNING:
Make sure you follow the procedures in
“Safety” on page xxi .
Note: In the following procedure, to determine if the SCSI connectors are the
correct length and type, see
“External Interfaces” in Appendix A,
“Theory of Operation.”
CAUTION:
The single-ended and differential alternatives are not compatible and
cannot be mixed on the same SCSI bus.
Note: You can use the
Lib SCSI I/F Config
menu from the operator panel to
check the valid SCSI bus connections. The screen that displays the SCSI
ID of the library should display either single-ended or differential.
If the screen displays
Invalid
, you have mixed single-ended devices with
differential devices somewhere on the bus. Correct the bus connection,
then use the menu to verify the bus connection.
Problem Conditions That Could Cause This Problem
The operating system cannot access the
library. • System not working or incorrectly configured
• Incorrect library configuration
• Loose or incorrect cable connection at the
system or at the library
• Defective MPC card
1. Is the library the only system
component not operating correctly?
2. Have the customer place the library
and drives offline.
3. Open the front door.
Yes: Go to step 4.
No: Notify the system administrator.
4. Check the library configuration to
make sure it matches the system
requirements.
Is the library correctly configured?
Yes: Go to step 5.
No: Correctly configure the library.
