The library supports these standard interfaces:
• A multi-initiator small computer system interface (SCSI) connection
• A Fibre Channel connection (requires feature code IF01)
In addition, the SCSI connection can be converted to Fibre Channel through a
converter network.
Thus users can interface with the library through:
• A direct connection to a SCSI client (LVD or HVD)
• An indirect connection to a SCSI client (LVD or HVD)
• A Fibre Channel connection to a Fibre Channel arbitrated loop
• A 10baseT Ethernet connection that they access through a Web browser
with the Horizon L Series Library Monitor (optional)
SCSI to Client Connections
Two scenarios are possible for SCSI connections between a library and client.
SCSI Client Direct Connections
For client-to-library (direct) SCSI connections, a server connects to the drives
and library through a multi-initiator SCSI bus. The library may have a control
path that is separate from the data path to/from the drives (the drives are then
off bus), or the control path may be daisy-chained to the data path (the drives
are then on bus). The connection from the server to the library and/or drives is
a SCSI Type-3, 68-pin cable.
SCSI Client Indirect Connections
An indirect connection to the library occurs when the library connects to a
client through a network.
An example of an indirect connection would be:
• A library connected to a UNIX server
• The server connected to an Ethernet LAN network
• A cable connected between the Ethernet LAN and the client
A SCSI Type-3 68-pin cable connects the server to the library. The server may
have its own control-side path or may be daisy-chained to a shared data bus
with one or more drives.
Note: If the customer is using Automated Cartridge System Library Software
(ACSLS), its level must be Version 5.3.2 or higher.
