11 DOOR & GATE CLOSERS
11.1 Closers General
Before fitting a closer, ensure doors & gates open and close freely. Following fitment of
closers, all doors & gates should be self-closing.
Adjustments can be made if necessary, however the method of adjustment will vary
according to the type of closer. Where applicable, reference should be made to the
manufacturers instructions supplied.
11.2 Powered Fire Door
Notes:
•
The closer comes with a spring to assist closing. The closer is supplied with this spring
pre-tensioned and held in position by a locking screw (see screw arrowed in the
following image). The screw must be left in position until the mechanical installation is
complete.
•
Do not power the closer until the mechanical installation has been completed.
•
In the event the spring has been allowed to unwind, it will be necessary to reset the
spring preload using the procedure described in the manufacturers instructions.
•
The closer requires a separate programmer (Stannah ref: 9449093) to facilitate setting
up.
1) Ensure the plastic filler piece for the cover is fitted then fit the spigot to the closer using
the M8 x 60 cap screw. Note: Do not tighten the spigot fully at this stage. It should be
just clear of the splines and free to rotate.
1) Insert the arm into the slider on the door and secure to the spigot using M6
countersunk screws
2) Now ensure the spigot engages fully with the splines in the closer and tighten the
centre bolt, using a hexagonal key through the access hole in the linkage arm; it may
be necessary to swing the door open until it coincides with the next position.
3) Apply just enough opening pressure on the door (against spring tension) to reduce the
load on the locking screw and remove the screw. The screw should be stored in the
threaded hole, next to hole from which it was removed. For further clarity, see the
closer manufacturer’s instructions.
4) The closer can now be powered up.
5) With reference to the quick start guide (see separate document), initial set-up and
further adjustments, can now be carried out using the separate programmer.
