Before PCS 7 setup program performs the installation, the "Security Controller" dialog box
appears. This dialog box displays the system settings that Setup for PCS 7 will make on the
PC station.
● The settings in the exception list of the Windows firewall are applied to the area of the local
network (subnet). If your PC stations are located in different networks (subnets), you need
to change this area.
● The settings in the exception list of the Windows firewall are made when the Windows
firewall is disabled.
● You can call up the "Security Controller" dialog box again. To do so, open "Security
Controller" using the search box in the start menu.
Note
The settings must be applied again if a change is made in the work environment, for
example, if you change from a domain to a workgroup or vice versa.
Note
For PCS 7 product bundle PCs such as SIMATIC PCS 7 BOX and SIMATIC IPC, note the
following:
● When in factory state, the settings are made in the registry, in DCOM and in the exception
list for the Windows firewall.
● The local Windows firewall for the PCS 7 product bundle PC is disabled in the factory state.
● The log of firewall events is disabled.
Note
When the PCS 7 plant is operated in a domain, the security settings must match throughout
the entire domain. Consult with your administrator to agree upon uniform security settings.

Shutting down Windows, standby mode / hibernation
Whenever you shut down Windows on your PCS 7 computers, use the command "Shutdown"
or "Restart". Do not use the following operating modes:
● Standby mode
● Hibernation
