Remote service and remote operation
For PC stations, we recommend the following tools for remote diagnostics and administrative
access to PCS 7 plants:
● VNC
The "RealVNC" Enterprise Edition software has been approved for use for remote service
access as of PCS 7 V8.0 .

Disabling the keyboard shortcut "Ctl+Alt+Del" when using RealVNC
A software emulation of the RealVNC software allows the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl+Alt+Del”
to remain operable when a key lock is active.
If you want to prevent users from using this keyboard shortcut in active process mode, you
must adapt a group policy. You can find information about this on the Internet on the support
pages of RealVNC under the following keyword:
“Secure Attention Sequence”
Activate the policy describe there with the "None" option.
● RDP
The use of the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is only permitted for remote maintenance
of PCS 7 clients. No server services (for example, Web Navigator Server, Data Monitor
Server, OPC server) should be running on these computers.
The reason for this lies in the handling of remote desktop sessions with the Microsoft
operating system. The RealVNC software should be used for remote access to other
computers in a distributed PCS 7 plant (for example, OS servers, engineering stations).

Activated key lock prevents local operation in the case of a locked system
You can cancel the key lock on the computer by performing the following steps:
1. Using a remote connection, connect to the session that is currently active on the
computer.
2. Log on as a user who is authorized to exit process mode.
3. Exit process mode. The key lock is deactivated.
4. Use the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl+Alt+Del” locally on the computer and take over the
active session. The remote connection is automatically disconnected.
5. Restart process mode.
Using the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)
● Access via RDP may only be gained by means of console takeover with the same user, or
initial login ("/admin" or "/console" parameter when connecting)
● Administrator rights are required for initial login on a PC with a server operating system.
