Basic license type Description
Single license With this license, the software may be used on any single computer. The type
of permissible usage is defined in the Certificate of License.
Floating license With this license, the software may be used on any computer within a network.
The software may be installed on several computers for this purpose.

Unlimited license With this license, the software may be used without restriction.
Count relevant li‐
cense
With this license, software usage is restricted to:
● The number of process objects, archive tags, process tags ("tags") defined
in the contract, depending on the licensed software.
Display:
The licensed number is displayed in the Automation License Manager under
"Scope."
Countable Objects Li‐
cense
With this license, software usage is restricted to:
● The number of process objects defined in the contract.
Display:
The values are displayed in the Automation License Manager under "Validity"
in the format:
"X(Y)"
Value "X" = number of licenses still available for process objects.
Value "Y" = maximum licensed number of process objects.
Calculation:
The number of process objects loaded into the AS is calculated by the exe‐
cuting application and is subtracted from the available process objects in the
value "X".
The value "X" is always updated by the executing application. The value for
reducing configured process objects can therefore increase again.
The value "Y" always indicates the maximum licensed number of process
objects and is therefore not changed.
Upgrade license Specific system status requirements may have to be met for an upgrade to be
performed:
● With an upgrade license, a license of an "old" version x can be converted
to a version >x+....
● An upgrade may become necessary due to an increased configuration
limits, for example.
Rental license With this license, software usage is restricted to:
● The number of operating hours defined in the contract
● The number of days after first use defined in the contract
Note: The information area of the task bar will display tooltips telling you how
long the rental license has left to run.
Pay per use license With this license, software usage is restricted by the terms of use defined in
the contract.
Contract license With this license, the software may be used without restriction.
