5.5.1.3 How to disable the power saving options of network adapters
Many modern network modules and network adapters support energy management features.
You can reduce energy consumption with these features.
Energy saving options allow the PC to monitor the activity of input devices. If energy saving
options are activated, they shut the PCS 7 PC down or trigger a restart if the PC is inactive for
a set period of time.
We recommend that you disable all power-saving options for all PCs involved in the process
mode.
5.5.1.4 How to prepare a PC station with CP 16xx for operation in PCS 7
Introduction
If a communication module is used in a PC station, the NDIS adapters needs to be configured
in the following situations:
● You want to monitor the diagnostics of network components on the system bus with a
maintenance station (MS).
A communication module is used on the PC of the maintenance station for access to the
system bus.
● An automation system in a SIMATIC PCS 7 BOX is to be loaded using an external
engineering station.
A communication module is used on the engineering station for access to the system bus.

NDIS standard
The "Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS)" standard enable operation of multiple
communication modules or simple network adapters in a PC. It also allows the use of several
protocols on a communication module or network adapter.
Configuring an NDIS Adapter
Note
Make these network settings on the PC station for each communication module of the PC
station.
As of PCS 7 V7.1, the communication module is installed automatically with the NDIS adapter
and only needs to be configured.
