Volume Control – Synchronized Intermittent Man-
datory Ventilation AutoFlow
Volume-controlled ventilation with fixed mandatory
minute volume MV, set with tidal volume VT and
frequency f. Between the mandatory ventilation
strokes the patient can breathe spontaneously.
AutoFlow – Automatic optimisation of inspiration
flow to deliver the set tidal volume avoiding pres-
sure peaks.
Suitable for patients with insufficient spontaneous
breathing or for patients who are undergoing with-
drawal by gradually reducing the mandatory portion
of total minute volume.

WARNING
Be especially careful when setting small
volumes due to the risk of dead space ventila-
tion to the patient. Volume compensation is
required, see page 128.
WARNING
In VC-SIMV and SPN-PS VG mode it is not pos-
sible to guarantee volumes if there is a sub-
stantial leak (e.g. due to a leaky mask).
