& symbols
The following terms, abbreviations and symbols are used in this document:
Term Description
PMI
The Person Machine Interface of the AlgoRex system. This encompasses
the terminal's hardware and the software functions which allow for interac-
tive work between the operator and AlgoRex system.
Authorization
level
Defines the choice of functions available.
Log in
Process needed for operator access.
Log out
Process needed to block operator access.
Password
Passwords prevent unauthorized persons gaining access. The operator
has to enter the password when logging in.
Key switch
Can be used in place of the password (equipment is optional).
Buttons
Buttons are switches arranged on the front of the operating unit. Buttons
are always shown in angle brackets,

Softkey
An entry in a menu which can be selected.
Softkeys such as
<Operate..>
or
<Full message>
are shown in bold. The
softkeys are selected by pressing the corresponding button to the left or
right of a menu.
The wording inside the angle brackets indicates how they relate to the
other buttons. This helps to distinguish them from a display message.
LED displays
The indicator lamps on the panel are known as LEDs.
Display
The liquid crystal display (LCD) shows text messages and softkeys.
Standby dis-
play
Content of display when there are no messages on screen.
Message
display
Content of display when there is at least one message on screen.
Primary menu
Provides access to control events and to the main menu. The primary
menu is either the 'Standby display' or the 'Message display'.
Main menu
Provides access to all the functions of the fire detection system
F Refers to other chapters or documents.
