SYMPTOM
Residual positive image appears, and/or small amounts of toner spots show on the side
edges of the print paper, after continual duplex BK printing. Specifically, this is visible in full
color printing just after continual duplex BK printing is made when thin paper such as
Japanese domestic paper is used.
CAUSE
Fusing oil is applied to the image transfer belt through the duplex printing paper. In
addition, toner and lubricant on the transfer belt get mixed with the fusing oil. The viscosity
has a tendency to increase when the fusing oil is mixed with the lubricant. Therefore small
toner spots and/or residual positive images get transferred to the next sheet of paper from
the image transfer belt.
SOLUTION
Toner refresh mode and PCU rotation get carried out when repeat B/W duplex
copies/prints are made. (BICU 1.04 or later and controller unit 1.05 or later) This improves
the printing quality.
The following SP modes have been added:
A: SP2-981-003 (Toner Revitalization – Duplex job interruption)

Input the above SP mode values when you update the BICU and controller firmware from
the older version. This improves the printing quality.
