PEF management
Platform Event Filtering (PEF) is a means to configure the BMC to take specific actions on
event messages that it receives or has generated internally, such as system power-off, system
reset, and alert generation.
PEF management in the MegaRAC GUI is divided into configuration tabs for event filters, alert
policies, and LAN destinations. These tabs are briefly described in the following sections.
MegaRAC GUI location: Configuration menu, PEF Management page
Event filters tab
Use the event filter table to select the action to take when a sensor event occurs at a specific
severity level. Typically these events are related to temperature, fans, and power, but events
for OEM or system management software can also be added.
Alert policies tab
In the Alert Policy Tab you can add and configure one or more alert policies to notify multiple
users of the R220 Network Appliance. The policies define how the alerts will be processed and
where they will be sent.
LAN destination tab
Use the LAN Destination tab to specify the destination types (SNMP traps or email alerts),
alert destination address (IPv4 or IPv6), and the content of the alert message if you choose
Email Alert as the destination type.
Information security
Several types of technologies are used to ensure the information security in the R220 remote
management.
Active directory authentication
Active directory is a directory service developed by Microsoft® that authenticates and
authorizes users in Windows domain networks. Active directory authentication is disabled by
default, but you can enable it and configure the user domain, the time out, and the IP address
of the domain controller server for the active directory settings.

LDAP authentication
The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is an open application protocol for
accessing and maintaining distributed information services over IP networks. LDAP
authentication is disabled by default, but you can enable it and configure the required IP
address, port, and search base.
