Replacing I/O modules with hard disk or solid state drives
Additional drives can be installed in upper I/O bay slots 2, 3, and 4, as shown in
. The I/O module must first be removed, then a drive cage installed (optional
component), and finally a drive carrier inserted in the drive cage.

Be sure to power off the R220 system before you remove or install components in the
I/O bays.
To install a hard disk drive into one of the I/O bay slots (drive 5, 6, or 7):
1. Power off the R220 system.
2. Remove the I/O module from the I/O bay as described in
Installing and removing an I/O
. The I/O module may be saved for future use.
3. Install an empty drive carrier into the chassis. The drive carrier is an optional component
that can be purchased from Radisys. See
.
4. Install the new HDD or SSD into the drive carrier as shown in
. Note
that the drive carrier is the same type as the drive carriers used in the middle row of
drives.
5. Slide the assembled drive carrier into the drive cage. See
.
