Installing the server

Before you begin

1. Before performing any installation procedures, read the safety information beginning on

.

2. Prepare a location for your system unit that is dry and as clean as possible. Contaminants

can damage the system unit.

Leave enough space around the system unit for proper cooling and servicing. The space
needed may vary, depending on the type of mounting used.

3. Make sure you have an adequate number of properly grounded electrical outlets for your

system unit, display, and any other peripheral devices.

To reduce the risk of electrical shock or energy hazards, comply with these safety

precautions:

•

The unit shall be supplied by a reliably grounded power supply, and shall be reliably
grounded to protective earth.

•

The unit shall be installed in a restricted access area in accordance with the authority having
jurisdiction. (DC-powered systems only; AC-powered systems can be in restricted or non-
restricted areas.)

•

The equipment shall be installed near the socket outlet so quick disconnect may be possible,
if necessary.

Step 1: Unpack the system unit

Remove the R220 from its shipping carton, along with any other materials in the carton. Also
unpack any components that will be attached externally to the system unit. If any items are
missing, contact your place of purchase.

To prevent possible damage to adapters and internal options (such as memory modules, disk
drives, and CPUs), do not unpack these components until you are ready to install them.
