5.1 Preparing for socket fabrication
INFORMATION
The Dynamic Vacuum System can be used with a total surface
weight-bearing socket or a specific weight-bearing socket. Observe
the following instructions:

Mould the residual limb length with liner unchanged while taking
the plaster cast.
►
Do not shorten the plaster model during modelling.

Required materials:
piston dummy, silicone dummy, short or
long valve dummy, 99B25 nylon stockinette, 99B81=70X19X5
PVA bag, string, 633W8 wax, 636K8* Plastaband
1) Distally flatten the plaster model so that the piston dummy can be
positioned in the longitudinal residual limb axis (see fig. 2). Posi
tion the piston dummy on the plaster model and loosely secure it
with a plaster screw.
2) Pull a nylon stockinette over the plaster model.
3) Tie off the nylon stockinette between the piston dummy and
plaster model and trim off the excess nylon stockinette (see
fig. 3).
4) Turn the plaster screw all the way in (see fig. 4).

INFORMATION: No PVA bag is required for fabricating a
check socket.
Pull a soaked PVA bag over the plaster model.
6) Use string to tie off the PVA bag in the undercut of the piston
dummy (see fig. 5).
7) Cut off the excess PVA bag with a scalpel.
8) Position the silicone dummy on the piston dummy. Check that no
excess PVA bag is protruding during this process (see fig. 6).
