VPN Tunnel Commands
Virtual private networking (VPN) provides a means to allow remote LANs to
communicate with each other over public IP networks such as the Internet. This
means that only local call charges to an Internet Service Provider are incurred.
You can also encrypt the data to prevent unauthorized access.
To enable a VPN, you must first set up a special connection called a “tunnel,”
between the two sites. After you set up a tunnel, one or more user data sessions
can be established which flow through the tunnel.
Tunnels are created over the Internet and configured in a manner similar to a
telephone line. It is not necessary to require authentication when creating a tunnel,
because no sensitive data is transmitted until a user connection is established.
Authentication information is normally associated with the connection profile for
the user data session using the tunnel (see the
+add profile <profile_name>
on
page
page 10-50
).
You use the Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) to implement VPN tunnels.
Table 10-22
lists the VPN tunnel commands.
Note:
You can use these VPN Tunnel commands only if you purchased and
installed the VPN/Encryption feature.
