The User Interface
Overview
To handle configuration and supervision of the Nimbra 300 Series switch, software
is implemented that provides the necessary functionality for element management.
Among the functions are:
•
Initial configuration
•
Software diagnostics and upgrade
•
Hardware diagnostics and replacement
For more detailed information on how to operate the switch, reference is made to
Nimbra Element Manager - Users Manual.
Connecting to a Nimbra 300 series switch
Communication with the Nimbra 300 series switch is done either locally through a
terminal connected to the serial or Ethernet control port of the control module or,
when the system switch is in operation, remotely over the network.
Local Connection, Serial Control Port
If you use a VT100 terminal emulator on a PC, a serial adapter is provided to adapt
the serial connection to the PC DB-9 connector. Connect a regular TP cable
between the Nimbra One and the adapter.
The serial interface is used for initial configuration and software installation.
Connect a terminal type VT100 to the control module according to below:

Interface:

Connector:
RJ45 connector. Use an RJ45-RS232 adapter, for example
the NPA0006-0001.

Port speed: 38.4 kbps
•
8 data bits, no parity bit, 1 stop bit, no flow control
Local Connection, Ethernet Control Port
Connect a TCP/IP network to the control module according to below:
