Reference Guide for the Model RH340 Internet Access ISDN Router
Advanced Configuration
5-5
Your ideal Multilink setting depends upon whether your telephone company or ISP charges more
for connection with two B-channels, whether or not your ISP supports Multilink, and whether or
not you would like to keep one channel open for voice use.
Idle Timeout
This field specifies the number of idle minutes that elapse before the connection to the ISP is
automatically disconnected. Idle Timeout is the period of time when no data is passed between the
remote node and your router. The default is five minutes.
Data Over Voice Bearer Service
In some areas, an ISDN data call is charged at a higher rate than an ISDN voice call. When this is
the case, the voice call often has a slightly lower data rate (56K versus 64K). To lower calling
charges, many routers have the ability to place data calls as voice calls. This feature is called
DOVBS (or DOSBS for Data Over Speech), and must be configured on both sides of the
connection—your router and the ISP's router. If your ISDN provider charges more for data calls,
ask if your ISP supports DOVBS.
Do not select this option unless you are sure that your ISP supports it.
