Checking System Memory
If you do not know how much memory is installed in your system, check
the amount by using the following procedure.
1.
On the Windows desktop, point to
My Computer
, and click the
right mouse button.
2.
With the left mouse button, click
Properties
. The
General
tab
shows the random access memory (RAM). This is the amount of
system memory in your computer.
In Windows 98 or Windows 2000, you can also find the amount of
memory by pointing to
My Computer
, clicking the right mouse button,
clicking
Properties
, and clicking the
Performance
tab.
Removing a DIMM
If your memory configuration requires the removal of a DIMM module,
use the following steps.
Before opening the computer and before
handling boards or memory modules, reduce static discharge by touching
the chassis.
1.
Remove the cover (see “Removing the Cover” earlier in this chapter).
2.
Locate the memory upgrade sockets on the system board (see the
figure “System board sockets and connectors” earlier in this chapter).
3.
Eject a DIMM by pressing the plastic clips at the outer edges of the
socket away from the memory module (see the following figure).
