Choosing the right shu tt er speed is dependent not only on the speed at which an object is
travelling through the FOV, it is also dependent on how the imagery is going to be used.
For motion anal
y sis it is best to get as short an exposure as possible in order to limit motion
blu r . (Motion blur an be defined as the number of pi x els traversed by an edge of an object
during an exposure.)
For smooth video, on the other hand, long exposures are best. These make for more
att
r acti v e movies, but blurry stills
In the TS3, exposure times a r e expressed as 1X, 2X, 4X, 8X, and MAX. These are defined as

For 500FPS for example: 1/(500FPS * 1X)= 2ms; 1/(500FPS * 2X) = 1ms; 1/(500FPS * 4X) = 0.5ms, etc.

Setting the Shutter Speed :
1. Navigate to Record Menu.
2. Select Shu
tt er Speed.
3. Select 1X, 2X, 4X, 8X, or MAX.
Press the Menu Bu tt on a few
times u n til the Menus a r e
cleared from the LCD screen.
Assuming you have installed a lens (See “2-2 Installing the Lens” on page 7), you should now see
a live image. You may need to adjust the lens F-stop or the lighting. P
r ess the Display Bu tt on once
to view a histogram to confirm th a t the image you see is not clipped (too dark or over-saturated.)
Note: The camera is capable of settin g shu tt er speeds in increments of one microsecond, but not
from the on-camera menus. For finer c ontrol of shu tt er speed, use the Web-Application. (See “6-4
Record Settings” on p e 45.)
