8. 1 Test
Several diagnostic tests are supported by the ATM CBR DSU. These may be used to identify
the source of a transmission problem. Loop-backs may be activated to segment the link, and
therefore validate signal flow along the path of the link. The fact that the signals are framed
(with the exception of TAXI) can help identify a faulty or failed connection.
One test loop is available for the CBR LINE port:
Local loop
Two types of test loops are available for the ATM UNI port:
Local Loop
Outside Loop
Diagrams showing the functioning of these test loops are given in Figure 8.2, and should be
reviewed in conjunction with the descriptions below.
When you select the TESTING option from the MAIN SET-UP menu, the Testing menu is
displayed. A DS3-E2 DSU is used as the example.

The values for the CBR port are NONE and LOCAL LOOP.
The values for the UNI port are NONE, LOCAL LOOP and OUTSIDE LOOP.
