5. 9 ATM CBR DSU checklist for configuring DSUs
This section acts as a checklist for setting up each DSU to establish a valid configuration for
a particular application. It assumes that you have already connected the DSU as required,
and know the Operator password.
Step 1. Set terminal
Set your terminal’s communication parameters to the V.24 default values, then turn on the
power to the DSU.
Step 2: Local node - General Set-up
menu
Check the current time and date, and change them if necessary as described in Section 5.2.
Check the
“[nodename]”
of the DSU. If it needs entering or changing, do this as described in
Section 5.2.
Check the password. If you wish to change the Operator password from the default setting,
select
PASSWORD
from the menu and change it as described in Section 5.2.
Step 3:
V.24 Set-up menu
a) Establish the communication parameters so that the DSU and the terminal are using the
same settings.
Note:
Set the terminal parameters first so that they correspond to the DSUs default settings
as given in Section 4.5.
b) You may then change the DSUs
BAUD RATE, PARITY, DATA BITS
and
STOP BITS
from
the default setting if you wish, and select
LOAD NEW CONFIG
.
c) If you have changed any of the default settings, you will now need to change the terminal
parameters so that the DSU and the terminal are still on the same settings.
Step 4 WAN Port Set-up menu
Step 4: CBR ports
For CBR ports, the
FRAMING, LINE CODING
and
TIMING
are fixed, and the only option on
the menu screen is to set
AIS DETECTION
to
ENABLED
or
DISABLED.
Step 5: ATM UNI ports
For ATM UNI ports,
FRAMING
is fixed for E3 and DS3, and selectable between
STS-3c
and
STM-1
for SDH/Sonet.
LINE CODING
is fixed for the interface.
TIMING
: All ports in the network can be set to
INTERNAL
since ATM does not require a strict
timing regime. Alternatively,
INTERNAL
timing can be set at one end of the link, and
LOOP
can be set at the other end.
AIS FORWARDING
and
RAI FORWARDING
are user selectable from a number of menu
options.
The set-up options for each type of interface are given in Sections 9-16, and are shown on
the Menu Chart at the rear of this manual.
