3 INTRODUCING THE ATM CBR DSU
The ATM CBR DSU family is used to interface between equipment with CBR ports
implemented as E1, E2, E3, or DS3, and ATM networks supporting E3, DS3, TAXI, or
SDH/Sonet UNI interfaces.
3. 1 Front panel

The ATM CBR DSU front panel layout is shown in a schematic form above.
The indicator lights behave in accordance with the alarm default settings as tabulated below:

Note:
When testing, the line port status takes priority over the ATM port loop status if tests are
being run on both ports.
3. 2 ATM UNI and CBR LINE Network port identities
The ATM UNI port is connected to the WAN to transmit the CBR traffic across the network
as an ATM stream, or to receive incoming ATM traffic. One DSU front panel light is labelled
ATM UNI FAULT . This single light serves to indicate both MAJOR and MINOR ATM alarms.
The CBR LINE port is connected to the CBR equipment (such as a PABX) by means of an
interface of suitable type and speed. There are two fault lights on the front panel that are
labelled with the words
LINE MAJOR and LINE MINOR.
The ports on the rear panel to which connections are made are physically opposite the fault
lights. This is an easy way to identify the ports when connecting the DSU for service.
