1D-20 Engine Mechanical:
4) Confirm that dowel pins (3) are installed to intake
side of each journal.
5) Apply engine oil to sliding surface of main bearings
and crankshaft.
6) Install crankshaft to cylinder block.
7) Install main bearing cap to cylinder block, making
sure to point arrow mark (on each cap) to crankshaft
pulley side. Fit them sequentially in ascending order,
1, 2, 3 and R, starting from crankshaft pulley side as
shown in figure.
8) Tighten main bearing cap bolts according to the
following procedure.
NOTE
• If main bearing cap bolts are reused, check
them for deformation referring to “Main
Bearing Bolt Inspection” under “Main
Bearings Inspection”: .
• Use 12-point socket wrench to tighten
main bearing cap bolts.
a) Apply engine oil to bolt threads and seats of
main bearing bolt and tighten bolt to 20 N
⋅
m (2.0
kgf-m, 15.0 lbf-ft) in numerical order (“1” – “8”)
evenly and gradually.
b) In the same manner as Step a), retighten them to
40 N
⋅
m (4.1 kgf-m, 29.5 lbf-ft).
c) In the same manner as Step a), retighten them to
60°.
Tightening torque
Main bearing cap bolt* : 20 N
⋅
m → 40 N
⋅
m →
+60° (2.0 kgf-m → 4.1 kgf-m → +60°, 14.5 lbf-ft
→ 29.5 lbf-ft → +60°)
9) Check that crankshaft rotates smoothly when turning
it by hand.
10) Apply engine oil to new rear oil seal (1) and install it
to engine rear crankshaft oil seal housing (2) using
special tool.

11) Install dowel pin (2) to engine rear crankshaft oil seal
housing (1) as shown in figure.
12) Apply sealant to mating surface of rear oil seal
housing (1).

Width: “a”: 3.0 mm (0.12 in.)
