Connect the smart tester
Turn the ignition  ON
Initialise the diagnostic tool
Record the DTC and clear
Turn ignition  OFF
Turn ignition ON
Verify if   P02269 is present?

Is  P02269  present?

Intermittent problem exists
Refer the intermittent problem 
inspection procedure

STEP 2

Ignition OFF

Drain the water from fuel filter
Ignition ON
Start the engine
Check for DTC

NO

YES

Is  the DTC still 

present   ?

Diagnosis completed

Ignition OFF
Water in fuel sensor wiring 
harness connector (C38) 
DISCONNECTED
Ignition ON

Check  the voltage between pin 
2 of C38 and battery ground

STEP 3

Is the value = 0 V?

Examine the  short  to battery in 
water in fuel signal wire 
Replace the wiring harness
Clear the DTC and verify

Suspect the water in fuel sensor 
malfunction
Replace the sensor with a new 
one
Clear the DTC and verify
