Warning: The communications cable completes the sealing mechanism of the housing.
The SmartDGA Instrument (Gauge, Guard, Guide) housing is not water tight when the
communications cable is not attached and locked in place. Failure to properly connect
this cable will invalidate the IP55 rating.
The power/communications cable is provided unterminated on
the SmartDGA EZHub controller end so that it can be cut to
length and then terminated with provided two Phoenix
connectors.
The communications cable connects to the RS485
Transformer (or LTC) connector and the Transformer Power (or
LTC Power) connector. The communications between the
instrument and the SmartDGA EZHub controller are proprietary
ASCII binary communications.
Note: In order to better protect the SmartDGA power/communications cable, you can run
the cable through a 1” flexible conduit from the SmartDGA Instrument to the EZHub
location. Be sure to seal the point of entry on the cable into the conduit with a gland seal
or similar part.
To install the communications cable:

Ensure that the Phoenix connectors are not installed on the cable until after the
routing is completed. It is easier to route the cable through cable trays and conduit
without the Phoenix connectors installed. Also, note that the exterior cable should be
adequately protected from extreme conditions in the outside environment.
1. Connect the power/communications cable multi-pin connector to the mating receptacle on
the SmartDGA instrument. Since this is a key connection, gently turn the plug until key slots
line up and then push the plug into the receptacle until you hear a click. Then tighten the
thread until it locks into place.
