4.2 Dual Valve (VA-2)
In this installation, the adapter and SmartDGA instrument are mounted on the bottom drain valve
of the transformer. Oil is drawn out of the bottom drain valve and returned to the top/fill valve
using 3/8” stainless steel tubing.
4.2.1 VA-2 Parts and Tools

1 2-4’’ Channel lock pliers (optional alternative if no pipe wrench is
available)
1 Teflon (PTFE) pipe thread sealant tape, 0.0032 inch or greater thickness,
density 1.2 g/cc
1 PTFE containing pipe thread sealant such as:
Leak Lock, Part #HS10001 by Highside Chemicals or
Harvey’s, TFE paste, Part # 023015 or
Rectorseal, Tru-Blu
TM
Vibration resistant or similar
1 Screw driver, Phillips (#3, 3/16”)
1 Oil cleaner and wiping rag (to clean any potential spills)
3-4 Cotton swabs (to clean grooves for O-rings)
1 Container (at least 3 Liters for waste oil)
