It will be necessary to open the governor weights to ensure
the assembly is pushed fully on to the shaft.
47. Replace the governor lever assembly and both fulcrum pins
taking care to ensure the holes are facing outwards.
48. Measure and adjust as necessary, the end play between
pivot and lever assembly.
49. Connect the governor interconnecting lever to the fuel
pump racks.
50. Adjust the fuel pump racks.
51. Reconnect the speeder spring to its control.
52. Check the governor lever and rack for correct operation.
53. Set the governor.
54. Replace the camshaft end float shims and then the camshaft
thrust washer.
55. Replace the end cover using the service tool, 317-50063, to
protect the oil seal.
56. Check the camshaft end float.
57. Refit the starting dowel and pin.
58. Remove the retaining tube from No.1 cylinder.
59. Replace the cylinder head and diagonally torque the nuts.
60. Check the cylinder head clearance.
61. With the cylinder head removed, replace the push rods
and tubes.
A very small mount of grease added to the tube sealing
rubbers will ease the fitting of the heads.
62. Replace the cylinder head complete with gasket and shims
making sure it is fully seated and then replace the nuts
hand tight.
63. Repeat items 58 on page 111 to 62 for the remaining
cylinders.
64. Replace a manifold with one nut on each cylinder head to
ensure the heads are correctly aligned.
65. Torque the cylinder head nuts.
66. Remove the manifold.
67. Spill time the fuel pumps.
68. Replace the side shields at the gear and flywheel ends.
69. Replace the air cowling with the gasket on the outside of
the cowling.
70. Replace both manifolds using the thick spacer on the top
studs between both manifolds.
71. Replace the valve rocker oil feed pipe to the heads and
crankcase.
72. Turn the engine to TDC No. 1 cylinder firing stroke and set
the inlet and exhaust valve clearances.
73. With the engine still at TDC No.1 firing stroke set the
decompressors.
74. Repeat items 72 to 73 for the remaining cylinders.
75. Check and reset, if necessary, the fuel injector setting.
76. Replace the injectors and leak off pipes complete.
Ensure a new washer is fitted at the nozzle end.
77. Replace the fuel pump to injector pipes leaving the nuts
finger tight.
78. Replace the injector clamp.
79. Tighten all of the fuel pipes.
80. Replace the fuel pump inspection doors.
81. Replace the cylinder head covers.
82. Replace the lifting eye.
83. Refit air filter, silencer and fuel tank, reconnect all services
and replenish the fuel and oil supplies.
TX Dismantle and Rebuild
These notes are of a general nature and are included as an aide
memoir and in no way are they intended as instructions.
Dismantling
Before beginning any work on the engine drain all of the fuel
and oil from the engine and disconnect all services, including
the battery. Remove the air filter, alternator, starter and fuel
tank.
1. Remove the lifting eye bracket.
2. Remove the exhaust manifold.
3. Remove the axial fan cowling.
4. Remove the inlet manifold.
5. Slacken the alternator and remove the drive belt.
6. Remove the alternator.
7. Remove the axial fan and bracket.
8. Pull off the injector leak-off pipes.
9. Remove all of the fuel pipes.
10. Remove the fuel lift pump. if fitted.
11. Remove the fuel filter.
12. Remove the gear and flywheel end air shields.
13. Remove the injector clamp.
14. Lift out the injector; note that a washer is fitted over the
nozzle of each injector.
15. Remove the valve rocker cover (6mm Allen key).
16. Remove the valve rocker assembly and oil restrictor plate.
17. Remove the inlet and exhaust valve stem caps.
18. Lift out the push rods.
19. Remove the valve rocker oil feed pipe and unions from the
crankcase and cylinder heads.
20. Remove the four cylinder head bolts from each cylinder.
21. Lift off the cylinder heads and place them on a bench.
22. Remove the push rod tubes.
23. Fit a suitable retaining tube over one cylinder head bolt
for each cylinder and replace the bolt hand tight this
will prevent the cylinders from rising if the crankshaft is
turned.
24. Remove the air baffles between the cylinders.
25. Remove the end cover.
26. Remove the thrust washer and shim from the camshaft.
27. Remove all the fuel pump inspection doors.
28. Disconnect the governor link from all the fuel pump racks.
29. Remove the two fulcrum pins from the governor lever
assembly pivot supports taking care to retain the spring
and shims.
30. Using long nosed pliers, remove the speeder spring from
its control.
31. Remove the governor lever assembly complete.
32. Remove the governor sleeve assembly from the camshaft.
33. Remove the fuel pump taking care to retain the timing shims
with the correct pump.
34. Remove the fuel pump tappet and cap using long nosed
pliers.
35. Remove the fuel pump tappet guide locating bolts from the
side of the crankcase.
36. Remove the fuel pump tappet guides noting which way
they are fitted.
37. Remove the oil dipstick.
