Installation
The Ethernet local management port on a core unit running in the net-
work element bootloader is enabled.
For the local management port configuration please refer to
Guide “Management Communication”
• Synchronization input (ESI) interface cabling
The ESI input is terminated with a 120 Ohm termination resistor. In case
the two inputs on the working COGE5 unit and on the redundant COGE5
unit are connected in parallel, one of the two inputs should have high
impedance. Refer also to section
5.2.4 Synchronization Interface
page 38).
The ESI inputs are supervised on the active and on the standby COGE5
unit. An alarm is raised if an ESI input is only connected to one of the two
units.
• Synchronization output (ESO) interface cabling
The ESO outputs on the active COGE5 can be active or squelched.
The ESO outputs on the standby COGE5 are squelched.
The impedance of an active ESO output is 120 Ohm. A squelched ESO
output has high impedance. The ESO outputs of the active and standby
COGE5 units can be connected in parallel.
• Ethernet cables to the traffic interfaces
For maximum protection against failures, also electrical and optical
cables from a switching or routing device to ports 1 to 5 of the COGE5
unit need to be connected to both units, the working and the standby
COGE5. In this case, split horizon might be required.
