Commissioning
This section presents how to configure and bring into operation the COGE5
unit and its main functions. For operation, i.e. status and maintenance func-
tions refer to section
6.1
Commissioning Prerequisites for COGE5
The following prerequisites must be fulfilled for the commissioning of a
COGE5 unit:
6.1.1
COGE5 Unit
A COGE5 must be physically plugged in slot 11 of the XMC20 subrack.
Please make sure the HW fulfils the requirements stated in
Note “XMC20 System Release R6B”
.
Please note:
When you power up the COGE5 unit for the first time (from factory default
settings), all LEDs will be “ON”. This state means that the network element
bootloader is active but there is no application software (ESW) to launch.
You will need to install an appropriate ESW.
→ For the installation procedures and the detailed initial connection pro-
cedure please refer to
.
A redundant COGE5 unit (if required) must be physically plugged in slot 13
of the XMC20 subrack. This is mandatory if you want to implement core unit
redundancy. It is not required if you do not want core unit redundancy.
6.1.2
ECST
ECST needs to be installed on a PC, and a management connection from
the ECST to the XMC20 needs to be up and running. For details about the
installation and operation of the ECST, please refer to
The amount and accessibility of operations depend on the user profile with
which you are logged in. For more information, please refer to
Guide “Management Communication”
Please note:
Ethernet cabling should be connected to both the master and the redundant
COGE5 if redundancy is implemented.
→ In this case, care must be taken to correctly configure split horizon
settings in order to avoid broadcast storms.
