Functional Description
Please note:
Only two of the three electrical Ethernet interfaces port-3 to port-5 on the
COGE5 unit can be selected as synchronous Ethernet source at the same
time.
Risk of operating trouble!
An electrical SFP based Ethernet port does not support synchronous Ether-
net.
The receive timing of the Ethernet signal can be used to synchronize the
PETS. The transmit timing of the Ethernet signal is synchronized to the
PETS timing.
Figure 11:
PETS synchronization with synchronous Ethernet
The quality level (QL) is transported in the Ethernet Synchronization Mes-
saging Channel (ESMC). The usage of ESMC is configurable with a configu-
ration parameter at the AP: /unit-x/port-a, Configuration - SyncE. The
received and transmitted QL values can be adapted using the Input Mapping
Table and Output Mapping Table.
The status of the transmitted and received QL is available at the AP: /unit-x/
port-a, Status - SyncE.
Please note:
For details on the synchronization aspects and configuration details at sys-
tem level, please refer to
[314] User Guide “TDM Services and Cross Con-
.
Synchronous Ethernet is supported for the following Ethernet port speeds:
• 100BASE-x,
• 1000BASE-x,
• 10GBASE-x.
