Maintenance and adjustment

ate in accordance with the instruc-
tions given below. Machine run-
away can cause injury or death to
operators or bystanders.

* Only operate the starting motor from

the operator’s seat.

Should it be necessary to use a boost-

er battery as a starting aid, proceed as
follows:

1. Connect one end of the jump lead to

the tractor battery positive (+) termi-
nal and the other to the booster battery
positive (+) terminal.

2. Connect one end of the other jump

lead to the booster battery negative (-)
terminal and the other end to a good
ground point on the engine block.

3. Start the engine from the driver’s seat

in the normal way.

Alternator and fan belt (Fig. 61)

Check the fan and alternator belt

tension every 250 hours.

Warning

If the lower side panel (safety guard)

is removed or loosened whilst checking
the belt tension, it must be refitted and
secured before restarting the tractor.

Renew the belt if it is worn or dam-

aged.To check the deflection, press down
the belt with the thumb at the centre of the
longest free length. With moderate thumb
pressure the correct deflection of the belt
is 10 mm (3/8 in).

If a belt tension gauge is available, the

correct tension is 355 N (80 Ibf). DO NOT
allow the tension to fall below 220 N (50
Ibf).

To adjust the belt tension:

1. Loosen the alternator pivot bolts (1) and

the adjustment link bolt (2).

2. Change the position of the alternator

to give the correct tension. Tighten the
three bolts.

3. Recheck the belt tension to ensure that

it is still correct.
