AC Systems
There are four AC power feeds: A1, A2 and B1, and B2. Each AC power feed provides input to
two power supplies, A1 to PS1+PS3, A2 to PS5+PS7, B1 to PS2+PS4, and B2 to PS6+PS8. This
configuration provides 6+2 redundant power to AC systems.
Note that the redundant power feeds are kept isolated from one another. The feeds are not diode-
ORed together. This is important for telco facilities that provide redundant power plants, because a
diode failure could allow faults in one power plant to affect the other power plant.
A power standby switch is provided on the back of the chassis. This switch disables the output
from all eight power supplies. The power standby switch can be disabled. Disabling the power
standby switch allows the system to be powered regardless of the setting of the power standby
switch. Refer to
Section 4.7.1, “Power Standby Switch Disable Jumper” on page 53
for details on
how to disable the power standby switch.

Power Budgeting
To properly budget for power consumption within the ZT 5085 system, many factors need to be
considered. These factors include:

Dual power domains
•
Redundant power supplies
•
Redundant power feeds
•
Power supply capacity
•
Multiple voltages
•
CMMs and fan trays
•
Cooling capacity
Note:
AC and DC have different power budgets due to the differing number of feeds.
