3.3.2
Removing a Power Supply
Note:
Because the power supplies are IPMI capable, it is recommended to wait for 40 seconds in between
removal and insertion of power supply units to enable the CMM to properly detect and address the
power supplies.
1. System power does not need to be off to remove a power supply.
2. Remove the intake grill from the bottom front of the enclosure. Refer to
Grill with Air Filter” on page 58
for information about working with the intake grill.
3. Unscrew the two retention screws on the front of the power supply you wish to remove. Refer
to for the location of power supply retention screws.
4. Push down the spring-loaded latch on the ejector and rotate the ejector away from the power
supply’s faceplate. This levers the power supply away from the backplane. Refer to the
Figure 18, “Injector/Ejector Operation (Power Supplies)” on page 41
5. Pull the power supply away from its backplane connection and slide it out of the enclosure.
6. Install a replacement power supply to maintain the enclosure’s shielding and cooling
performance. Refer to
Section 3.3.1, “Installing a Power Supply” on page 40
7. Replace the intake grill.
3.4
Working with Fan Trays
Nine blowers housed in three removable fan trays occupy the top of the enclosure. Each fan tray is
secured by a captive screw and plugs into a blind mating receptacle in the enclosure (see the
Figure 19, “Fan Tray Installation/Removal” on page 43
For more information about system cooling, refer to
Chapter 5, “Cooling Subsystem”
.
Caution:
Cooling capability is reduced when fan trays are absent from operating systems. It is important to
minimize the time that a fan tray is absent from an operating system. For typical system
configurations, no fan tray should be absent for more than two minutes.
3.4.1
Removing a Fan Tray
1. A 1/8" flat-head screwdriver is required to remove a fan tray.
2. System power does not need to be turned off to remove a fan tray.
3. Loosen (turn counterclockwise) the recessed screw latch on the front of the fan tray until it
releases the tray.
4. Use the handle at the bottom of the tray to pull the fan tray out of the enclosure.
5. Install a replacement fan tray.
