Replacement
Note: Before installing the new planar in the system unit, test the memory card by placing it
in position on the memory connectors of the system board (do not plug the memory
board completely at this time). If you find that guide pins on the memory connectors
of the system board interfere with the memory card connectors, remove the pins,
nuts and washers from the system board. Give the removed parts to the customer to
save for any future upgrades.
1. Position the system planar in the unit. The connector side must be kept towards the
internal side of the unit. Ensure that you place the EMC gasket correctly around the serial
and parallel connectors and then insert it into the designated holes in the rear of the unit.
2. Ensure that the planar locating pins properly engage the locating holes (one to the front
and one to the back).
3. Secure the system planar to the unit tightening its retaining screws.
4. Secure the standoff screws used to fix the planar serial/parallel connectors to the rear of
the unit.
5. Connect any cables to the designated connectors on the system planar.
6. Replace all parts removed earlier in this procedure in reverse sequence.
7. Replace the rear cover, the side cover, and the front cover of the unit following the
procedures described in “Rear Cover” on page 4-8, “Side Cover” on page 4-6, and “Front
Cover” on page 4-3.
Note: When you have finished the removal and replacement procedure, tell the customer
to set the system time and date, the alternate bootlist, and any other settings stored
in NVRAM.
Attention: Go to page 2-16 for instructions to Set Unit Number for any attached expansion
unit. If the unit number is not set, the system will not boot.
