9. Maintenance
9.1 General
Regular maintenance is essential to ensure
that the HygroMatik units can achieve a long
service life. The necessary maintenance
work refers to components that are either
subject to mechanical or electrical wear, or
whose function is reduced by deposits.
The optimum function and required mainte-
nance intervals of a reverse osmosis unit
depend mainly on the existing water quality
and the permeate quantity produced. Differ-
ent water qualities can extend or shorten the
maintenance intervals.
The following factors in specific could
lead to an early blocking of the mem-
branes:
•
Blockage as a result of the deposit of
iron or calcium sulphate and calcium
carbonate
•
Blockage with organic material
In general, a replacement of the mem-
branes becomes necessary
if a change in
the following basic system parameters (at the
same temperature and salinity) is noticed:
•
Reduction of the permeate production
to a value which is insufficient for the
application downstream of the reverse
osmosis system.
•
Too much increase in the conductivity
of the water produced to a value too
high for the application downstream of
the system.
•
Increase of the membrane feed pres-
sure.
9.2 Safety instruction for mainte-
nance
Risk of electrical shock!
Hazardous electrical voltage!
Any work on the electrical system to be per-
formed by certified expert staff (electricians
or expert personnel with comparable training)
only.
Take care of ESD protection!
The electronic components of the control are
very sensitive to electrostatic discharges. In
order to protect these components during
maintenance, steps must be taken to guard
against damage from electrostatic discharge.
Removal and replacement of components
If necessary, the parts of the RO (reverse
osmosis) unit may only be replaced by quali-
fied personnel. Replacement work must
always be carried out with the system at a
standstill; contact the supplier or the manu-
facturer directly for this purpose.
Use disposable gloves when installing the
prefilter(s) and membrane(s) to protect them
from contamination.
