ip dhcp-server ping packets
<#packets>
Use the
ip dhcp-server ping packets
command to specify the number of ping packets the DHCP server
will transmit before assigning an IP address to a requesting DHCP client. Transmitting ping packets
verifies that no other hosts on the network are currently configured with the specified IP address. Use the
no
form of this command to prevent the DHCP server from using ping packets as part of the IP address
assignment process.
Syntax Description
<#packets>
Specifies the number of DHCP ping packets sent on the network before assigning
the IP address to a requesting DHCP client
Default Values
By default, the number of DHCP server ping packets is set to 2 packets.
Functional Notes
Before assigning an IP address to a requesting client, the SROS DHCP server transmits a ping packet on
the network to verify there are no other network hosts already configured with the specified address. If the
DHCP server receives no reply, the IP address is assigned to the requesting client and added to the DHCP
database as an assigned address. Configuring the
ip dhcp-server ping packets
command with a value of
0
prevents the DHCP server from using ping packets as part of the IP address assignment process.
Usage Examples
The following example configures the DHCP server to transmit 4 ping packets before assigning an
address:
ProCurve(config)#
ip dhcp-server ping packets 4
