ip pim-sparse hello-timer
<time>
Use the
ip pim-sparse hello-timer
command to set the time interval at which periodic hello messages are
transmitted out the interface. Each PIM interface has an independent hello-timer. Use the
no
form of this
command to return to the default value.
Syntax Description
<time>
Specifies the interval (in seconds) at which periodic hellos are sent out the
interface. Valid range is 10 to 3600 seconds.
Default Values
By default, hellos are transmitted on PIM interfaces every
60
seconds.
Functional Notes
Hello messages are used to inform neighbors of a router’s presence. Hello messages normally generate a
small amount of traffic on an interface. Setting the
hello-timer
to a small interval increases the amount of
hellos sent (thus increasing the amount of traffic). Set the
hello-timer
to a reasonable value, taking into
consideration the bandwidth available on the interface.
Usage Examples
The following example specifies hellos to be sent on the loopback interface every 3600 seconds:
ProCurve(config)#
interface loopback 1
ProCurve(config-loop 1)#
ip pim-sparse hello-timer 3600
