hold-timer
<hold time>
Use the
hold-timer
command to set the default hold time for all neighbors in the BGP process.
Syntax Description
<hold time>
Specifies a time interval (in seconds) within which a keepalive must be received
from a peer before it is declared dead peer. Range: 0 to 65535
Default Values
By default, the hold time is 90 seconds.
Functional Notes
Using the
hold-timer
command in BGP configuration mode sets the default hold time for all neighbors in that
BGP process. Using the
hold-timer
command in BGP neighbor configuration mode sets the hold time for only
that neighbor. The peers will negotiate and use the lowest configured setting. The keepalive interval will be set
to one third of the negotiated hold time.
Usage Examples
The following example sets a hold time of 120 seconds for a specific neighbor, with an understood keepalive
interval of 40 seconds:
ProCurve(config)#
router bgp 65000
ProCurve(config-bgp)#
hold-timer 120
