3. Safety instructions
When handling the trak | systemizer dynamics battery system and its components, please
observe the following safety information.
3.1. General safety information
HAZARD!
Metal parts of the batteries are always live. Do not short-circuit batteries! If short-circuiting
occurs, very high currents can flow and cause burns. Touching conductive parts can result in
cardiac arrhythmia and shock.
•
Exercise a high level of caution during all work on batteries in order to avoid serious injury due
to electric shock and burns.
•
Never place any tools or other metal objects on a battery.
•
Make sure you remove all watches and jewellery before working on the batteries.
Do not touch any bare battery parts, connectors, terminals and poles!
HAZARD!
Work on batteries, especially their installation and maintenance, must only be carried out by
trained, qualified staff who are familiar with handling batteries and aware of the necessary safety
precautions.
DANGER OF EXPLOSION!
An explosive mixture consisting of hydrogen, oxygen and gas can escape from lead-acid
batteries. If this mixture explodes, serious personal injury can occur.
•
Always wear the recommended protective clothing.
•
Only use the proper tools ("non-sparking", with voltage insulated handles, etc.).
•
Prevent all sources of ignition such as sparks, flames, electric arcs.
•
Prevent electrostatic discharges. Wear cotton clothing and if necessary, ground yourself if you
are working directly on the batteries.
DANGER OF EXPLOSION!
Never clean batteries with a feather duster or dry cloths made from synthetic fibres. Danger of
electrostatic charges and gas explosion! Only clean the battery surfaces with cotton cloths or
paper towels moistened with water.
Electrolyte is extremely corrosive! Contact with the electrolyte is not possible during normal
operation. If the casing is destroyed, the electrolyte bound inside can escape, which is just as
corrosive as fluid electrolyte.
Escaping electrolyte is harmful to eyes and skin!
WARNING!
Only use permitted lifting and transportation devices, e.g. lifting gears according to VDI 3616.
Lifting hooks must not cause damage to cells, connectors or connecting cables.
