Preparation of the coolant
CAUTION
Danger of engine damage from incorrect radiator protection
fluid concentration.
A too low radiator protection fluid concentration increases the
risk of corrosion and also the risk of the cooling system freezing.
A radiator protection fluid proportion of over 50 vol% degrades
the cooling action and also the protection against frost is re-
duced. Therefore, serious engine damage may result from ex-
ceeding or dropping below the radiator protection fluid concen-
tration.
▪ The radiator protection fluid must be prepared according to the manufac-
turer's instructions before filling into the cooling circuit or some radiator
protection fluids are also offered as premixed formulations. Be sure to
comply with the information on the packaging label.
▪ If the radiator protection fluid has to be mixed with water, use only clean
water that is not too hard. Drinking water with as low a content of salt, min-
erals and suspended matter as possible is ideal. Demineralized or distilled
water is also ideal.
