5.5.1
Isolation Board Removal
STEP 1
There are 2 ribbon cables connecting to the Isolation assembly. The
cables should be disconnected from the RFI filter board. They can be
removed from the Isolation Board once it is removed from the
transmitter. It does make a difference where these re-connect. The
cables and connectors are labelled so proper connection can be
verified on the Overall System Block Diagram.
STEP 2
Remove the 4 HEX standoffs near the corners of the assembly. There
are 4 round standoffs very close to the corners of the assembly
which are merely guide pins and do not need to be removed.
STEP 3
Once the hex standoffs are removed, the Isolation board can be
pulled straight out from the Z-Plane until the connection pins are
disengaged.
!
CAUTION:
THERE ARE 10 SMALL PINS WHICH CONNECT THE ISOLATION BOARD
TO THE Z-PLANE. THESE ARE EASILY BENT IF THE ASSEMBLY IS NOT
PULLED STRAIGHT OUT. IF BENT, THEY WILL HAVE TO BE
STRAIGHTENED BEFORE IT WILL BE ABLE TO BE RE-INSTALLED. IF
BENT TOO FAR, THE PINS MAY BREAK OFF WHEN STRAIGHTENED.
NOTE:
If the assembly is replaced, the new one should have the ID jumpers set to the
same position as the one to be replaced. The programming is a simple jumper
selection on the PC board, JP1 and JP2. The jumper chart is printed on the PC
Board next to the jumpers and can also be found on the Isolation Board sche-
matic if verification is required. For the Z2, the jumpers should be set for Z-
Plane B which means JP1 would be installed and JP2 would be removed.
5.5.1.1 Inspection
All of the isolation resistors have a thermistor attached to them with a special epoxy.
Verify that all of the thermistors are firmly attached and that the epoxy has not
cracked as this will give incorrect temperature readings.
!
CAUTION:
BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DESOLDERING ANY OF THE RESISTORS AS
A LARGE AMOUNT OF HEAT IS REQUIRED. DO NOT PULL VERY HARD
OR THE FEED THROUGH HOLES ON THE PC BOARD COULD BE
DAMAGED.
