Chapter 2: Spectrum system installation
Figure 2-24: Connecting a MediaDirector 2252B unit to the SystemManager
1. Ensure that an Ethernet switch with Gigabit uplink capability has been installed in your equipment
rack.
2. Locate the Gigabit Ethernet cable (RJ-45) which ships with each SystemManager Platform. Do not
use a crossover cable or adapter.
3. Connect one end of the cable to the LAN 1 port on the SystemManager, and the other end to the
Gigabit Ethernet switch. Do not use the SystemManager’s LAN 2 port.
4. Connect one end of a Gigabit Ethernet cable (RJ-45) to either of the two Ethernet ports located above
the power supply on the MediaDirector or MediaCenter, and then connect the other end to an open
port on the Gigabit Ethernet switch.
Connecting a Spectrum X to the SystemManager
Connect the Spectrum X to the SystemManager via your Ethernet network.
If you are using the management application on the Spectrum X instead of the SystemManager, simply
connect your client computer directly to your Ethernet switch.
IMPORTANT:
For the following connections, use only a CAT 6 Ethernet cable or better.
For lengths between 37m and 100m, or greater, use CAT 6a.
