Connecting 3 MediaDirector 2252B or 2251B units in an EFS
configuration to 4 MediaStores using SAS
Connect three MediaDirector 2252B or 2251B units in an EFS configuration to four MediaStore 5100 or
5000 series units by cabling the SAS connections.
The sample diagram in this section shows the recommended cabling for a system that uses three
MediaDirector 2252B units configured for EFS, with storage across a maximum of four MediaStore 5000
series units.
Before you begin
CAUTION:
Make sure each MediaDirector is running the same version of Spectrum
software and that they have an EFS license installed BEFORE connecting the EFS
Ethernet or shared storage cables.
Please note the following about cabling the MediaDirectors and the MediaStores:
• When cabling the SAS connections between the MediaStores, be sure to connect primary I/O modules
(top module) to primary I/O modules and secondary I/O modules (bottom modules) to secondary I/O
modules.
• Do not twist SAS cables or bundle them with power cables—doing so will affect performance.
• Make sure there is no lateral or vertical strain on the SAS connectors when connected to devices, as
contact problems may not appear immediately.
NOTE:
For the following procedure, refer to the diagram in this section. P=Primary
module and S=Secondary module.
