Cutting Dadoes with a Dado Blade
To cut a dado with a dado blade:
1. Adjust the dado blade to the desired depth of
cut.
2. Adjust the distance between the fence and the
inside edge of the blade, as shown in
Figure
53, to dado the length of a workpiece.
—
If dadoing across the workpiece, use the
miter gauge and carefully line up the
desired cut with the dado blade. DO NOT
use the fence in combination with the miter
gauge.
3. Reconnect the saw to the power source.
4. Turn the saw ON. The blade should run
smooth, with no vibrations.
5. When the blade has reached full speed, per-
form a test cut with a scrap piece of wood.
6. If the cut is satisfactory, repeat the cut with
the actual workpiece.
Figure 54. Example of dado being cut with
multiple light cuts, instead of one deep cut.
The
Figure below demonstrates the sequential
process of making multiple, light cuts that get
progressively deeper. The actual number of cuts
used should be determined by workpiece hard-
ness, total dado depth, and feed rate. In general, if
you hear the motor slow down during the cut, you
are cutting too deep or feeding too fast.
